School of Physics Science in University of Jinan was founded in March 2011, and was renamed School of Physics and Technology in November 2011. The predecessor is Department of Physics, School of Science in University of Jinan. The undergraduate programs are Physics (Science), Optoelectronic Information Science and Technology (Science), and New Energy Science and Engineering (Engineering). At present, there are more than 900 undergraduate students in school. The school offers first-level discipline Master degree program in Physics, and second-level discipline Master degree programs in Theoretical Physics, Particle and Nuclear Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, and Optics. At present, the school has more than 30 graduate students.
The School comprises 74 teaching & research staffs, including 1 national prominent teacher, 2 Taishan Scholar of Shandong Province Overseas Distinguished experts, 1 Distinguished Teaching Professor in Shandong Province, 1 Teaching Excellence Award winner in University of Jinan and 3 Youth Education Experts, in which there are 11 professors, 22 Associate professor; 30 Doctors, and 15 Master Instructors. Our staffs enjoy a good reputation on dedication, teaching and fostering.
The school is grouped into 4 research and teaching centers, which are the Department of Physics, Department of photo-electricity, the University Physics Teaching Center and the University Physics Experimental Center. These centers not only service for undergraduate and graduate teaching tasks of School of Physics and Technology, but also support for the teaching mission of physical theory courses and the experimental lessons for all university students. The equipments for teaching and research are worth more than 30 million CNY and the laboratory areas are more than 7,000 square meters, which could well satisfy the needs of teaching and research.
The school has built the Institute of University of Jinan-Weishi Lighting Technology, Institute of Particle Technology Research and Institute of Optoelectronic Materials. The advanced computer rooms as well as students practice base and employment base cooperated with more than ten enterprises and schools could well meet the demands of student internships and other practical teaching programs.
The main research fields are Computational Materials Science, Condensed Matter Theory and Computation, New Energy Materials and Devices, Laser Technology and Application, Quantum Communication and Quantum Information, Particle Physics and Nuclear Physics. During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, the school undertook 4 national projects and 11 provincial level projects. At the same period, impressive 137 papers have been published in the core journals or above, of which 89 papers are included in the indexes of SCI, EI, and 5 of them are patented. Currently, the school has 14 National Natural Science Foundation projects, more than 20 Provincial Funds. The total research funding is more than 9 million CNY. There are 62 research papers have been adopted by SCI, EI or ISTP in 2013.
The students own strong leaning culture and have many colorful extra-curricular activities. The school own high employment rate and high passing rates on the examination for Postgraduates. There are 27 percentage graduates passing the examination for Postgraduates in 2013, and most of them were enrolled by 985 or 211 Engineering universities. In addition, the staff and students got many excellent achievements in these years including National College Students Challenge Cup Competition, National Physics Students Competition in Teaching Skill, and Shandong Province University Students Competition of Physical Skills and Innovation, etc.
The development aim of mid-and-long term of the School of Physics and Technology is "to develop science and technology simultaneously, pay equal attention to teaching and research, having distinctive characteristics, to become a leading school in Shandong provincial colleges."
